Whole Group Introduction to the Project

1. Watch the read aloud of Jack and the Hungry Giant by Loreen Leedy. See possible whole group discussion topics below. Choose whichever fit best for your class.

2. In groups or pairs, make a list of all of the foods you learned about for each food group.
3. Individually, create your own healthy, balanced plate using food from your group's list. Be prepared to tell the class why you chose that food and which group it belongs to. 4. Early finishers can play practice games to apply what they have learned on the next page. *Differentiation Note: You can use the graphic organizers (list and plate) from the file to your right, have students create their own using construction paper and magazines, or have students work in a drawing software like Pixie to create their plate.
